Wedding Liability Insurance: Do You Need Wedding Insurance?

Should you choose wedding liability insurance for your special day? Even the most well-prepared events do sometimes have unforeseen incidents and there are some things that may just be inevitable. What is wedding insurance and how much does wedding insurance cost? we’ve got advice for you..

A friend asked me the other day; “Should I get wedding insurance?” I quickly told her about my friend’s wedding last year when the wedding reception venue was flooded on the day of the wedding and the bride was frantic about having to cancel the wedding and paying extra to find another wedding reception venue. When things go wrong it can be stressful – and expensive too.

So, do you need wedding insurance? In some cases, photographers don’t show or a make-up artist fails to show up because of sudden chest pain and you surely cannot force them to work. Perhaps a wedding caterer may fail to serve you on the wedding day because their shop burns down – or your wedding dress may accidentally catch fire during one of your pre-wedding photo shoots…

In one wedding that I planned, the bride’s father had chronic chest pain in the morning of the wedding and so they decided to cancel the big event. Without liability insurance for weddings like theirs, the cancellation could have cost them a small fortune as everything was already set and at least partly paid for and the food was already prepared.

But why worry about these things?

Because they happen and things like this can really cost a lot. It may even deplete your funds for another wedding if you decide to postpone it. With wedding liability insurance, you will be reimbursed for the cost you have incurred and it will help make your postponed wedding not as costly as it otherwise would be.

Wedding Liability Insurance Cost – How Much Is Liability Insurance For A Wedding

So how much would it cost you to have your wedding insured? Most basic insurance coverage like incidents of lost photos, a damaged dress or failed delivery of your wedding cake, would cost you around $100 to $500 dollars. That of course, depends on how much of the wedding you want covered by the insurance company. If the venue already has wedding reception insurance then you may choose not to include public liability insurance for wedding receptions. Check out some reliable insurance companies to get good estimates and find the best value wedding insurance.

So what does wedding insurance cover? Most wedding liability insurance covers the cancellation of the wedding due to problems with the venue or other valid reasons, the wedding attire, cake, photography and video, wedding flowers, wedding presents, transportation, wedding/reception venue and rings (remember, only wedding rings may be covered in this case). Depending also on your wedding insurance coverage, your insurance company will be able to advise you on the best wedding insurance package.

When it comes to insurance, especially while planning your wedding, you may perhaps be thinking of it as additional cost and you may even be thinking how insurance cost can add anything to your glamorous wedding. But of course, you also have to consider that in the event that accidents happen, having wedding liability insurance could save you from going broke after the wedding (it’s possible!) and save you from huge costs.

In most cases these days, wedding reception venues and hotels even require that you have wedding venue liability insurance to make sure that any damages to the reception venue will be covered, especially as weddings involve alcohol and a huge number of guests that could result in damage to property after the merrymaking has finished.

How Much is Wedding Insurance Worth For Peace of Mind?

One last reminder, whether you are choosing wedding dress insurance or wedding event insurance, I strongly recommend before even signing up for insurance; read the fine print and make sure you understand the smallest of details about the insurance you are potentially signing up for. If in doubt, ask a specialist or even your wedding planner to help you.
